SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OH – A new season is upon us as Kings Hammer FC Cincinnati gets ready to kick off their USL League 2 campaign on Saturday, May 24th when they host West Virginia United.
Following a fifth place finish in the Valley Division last season, KHFC will look to rebound in a big way this year, starting with a new head coach who already knows his way around the team and the pitch.
Tony Awor, who served as the KHFC USL Academy head coach last season– and will continue to do so this season– now takes the reins of the KHFC USL League 2 team. Awor is excited for the prospect of this team, saying “I feel really good. I’ve been around the team for a while. We’ve got the basic foundations that were instilled by the previous head coach, and for me, it’s an opportunity to progress on from that so I’m looking forward to it.”
Awor also completed a USL Residency this past offseason with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, being one of four coaches selected to do so. He learned a lot from his time in Tampa, and looks to bring those new insights to the team, saying “That pre-pro residency was really good for me. I learned a lot in terms of structure and attention to detail. That’s very much what I’ll be trying to do with this group.”
KHFC fans will be excited to see some returning favorites like forward Brock Kiper, keeper Jack Moxom, and more. The team is also bolstered in the midfield by marquee signing Corben Bone, who has spent time with several professional squads including FC Cincinnati. Bone will be joined by one of his former FCC teammates in the midfield in Kenney Walker. Walker is more than familiar with the KHFC organization, playing for the team in 2021.
Not only are there some new faces, there’s also a new place to be called home this season. The Lindner Family Sports Complex on the campus of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy will be the home venue of all KHFC matches, including for both USL League 2 and USL W League.
Matchday #1 for KHFC will also see them face a new opponent in West Virginia United, who made the switch from the South Atlantic Division this past offseason, where they posted a fifth place finish last year. West Virginia United join KHFC Columbus and Lexington SC in being the new teams to the Valley Conference as Cleveland Force SC, Toledo Villa FC and FC Buffalo joined the Great Forest Division.
New division foes, new veterans and a new coach are set to make this season one of the most exciting in KHFC history!
